Work From Home Capsule: 10x10 Challenge

This new season has come with a countless number of changes to everyday lifestyle. We're all trying our best to stay home, keep our families safe, and stay connected through technology.

One of the biggest things that may have changed for you is what you're wearing from day-to-day. Those jeans have likely gotten pushed to the back of the closet, and your leggings, sweatpants and pyjamas are having a big moment! (sound about right?)

Working in your pyjamas feels great for the first week ...but by week 9 or 10 of working from home, they don't feel so great anymore! One of the best habits we can add to our daily routine, is getting properly dressed for our day.

Our community has been asking for cute styling inspiration for WFH. So, we're bringing you JUST THAT today! Johanna, our social media manager, is showing you 10 effortlessly cute but cozy outfits for working from home, with just 10 pieces of clothing! All 10 of these outfits are luxuriously comfortable, but they can be dressed up for work and evenings out too once we go back to normal life! 🙌

A conversation with Miik community model Kim, a nurse on the frontlines of COVID-19

A conversation with Miik community model Kim, a nurse on the frontlines of COVID-19

What's it really like to be on the frontlines of COVID in Canada?

Meet Kim. She's a Miik community model, but more importantly, she's a nurse on the frontline of COVID-19. We were able to chat with Kim about what it's really like being a nurse right now, and how we can help. Last week, we were able to send Kim and her coworkers some care packages with cozy Miik socks, handwritten cards from our kids, and fabric face masks for the hospital admin staff.

Right now, we're making non-medical masks that are available for donation to the frontlines and essential services including hospital admin staff, grocery store workers, and community shelters. Donate Now! We've already paid for the first 100 masks - and now you can help carry it forward! We are so much stronger when we come together 💪

Thank you again to those on the frontline, or working in essential services. We acknowledge your incredible bravery and strength today!

Here's 3 simple ways you can help!

      1. Stay home if you are able. Kim said it best in our video conversation: "be mindful of your practices and keeping your hands clean. And stay away from people, to hopefully make this end quicker." Listen to your local authorities and be compliant so we can keep people safe.

      2. Donate a mask. We are now making non-medical masks available for donation. These masks are going straight to essential service workers. Click here to add one to your cart!

      3. Spread love, not germs! As Kim touches on in this video, it can get to be a lot, seeing scary news headlines constantly on our tv, social media and conversations. We say, try and make an effort to encourage someone today and let them know something you appreciate about them!

Miik's Sustainable Clothing Holiday Gift Guide

Miik's Sustainable Clothing Holiday Gift Guide

Give the gift of Miik this holiday season! If you’re looking for ethical and locally-made gifts for all the amazing ladies in your life, look no further. Our unbelievably comfortable, sustainable clothing is designed for women, by women, with eco-luxe fabrics that last. We’ve put together a list of 5 different types of women you might be buying for this season. Whether it’s your mom, niece, sister, grandma, aunt or coworker—we’re confident that Miik has something for everyone!

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

      1. For the one who loves cozy winters

She’s the skier, the ice skating queen... the one who’s always ready for a snowy adventure! We’re not ones to boast, but if there’s one thing we know best at Miik, it’s après ski style. Here are some perfect pieces for the girl living in a winter wonderland:

Reese drawstring hoodie: A modern take on a classic hoodie, this tunic has all the cozy winter vibes. While typical hoodies can be bulky and look sloppy, this tunic over a pair of leggings or jeans looks so put-together and professional!

Charlene cowl hooded tunic: The Charlene is the PERFECT holiday gift, just in time for winter weather. It has pockets, a hood and has a chic take on the après ski style. In solid or stripe with so many colours to choose from, we have you covered!

Kerry turtleneck: This turtleneck is perfect for every winter capsule wardrobe, and great for layering all season long. This charcoal tone is super cozy, but if you want extra winter vibes, we recommend our port stripe!

Jodi zippered tunic: This piece is one of our favourites because it effortlessly transforms from a cardigan to a tunic with a simple zip! Wear it over a pair of jeans and a tank as a cardi, or zip it up and wear as a tunic over leggings for ultimate comfort. With the Jodi, you just can’t go wrong.

Lucy legging: Every outdoorsy woman needs a go-to pair of leggings. The Lucy won’t let you down... like, ever. These leggings won’t fade, pill or lose their shape like other leggings do. Buttery soft and made with eco-luxe rayon from bamboo, these leggings are a cozy friend—especially in the winter!

      Collage of women's corporate attire

      2. For the one who's a boss babe

From boardrooms to networking events, we’ve all got that woman in our life who is crushing it in the corporate world. These Miik pieces are tried and true for the working woman.

Emily soft blazer: This is our most popular blazer and one of our bestselling items. It’s a classic blazer that will last in your wardrobe for years to come. Our customers can't get over how comfy it is... one even said it feels like you're wearing leggings on the top half of your body! If you’re buying for a working woman, we can’t think of a better gift.

Sonya wrap dress: This classic wrap dress is perfect for work, but has great evening and special event versatility. It can be dressed up or down, and is made of buttery soft rayon from bamboo.

Sienna boyfriend jacket: Who doesn’t love a good boyfriend jacket?! Perfect for a corporate chic look, this jacket is versatile, so comfy and has the most flattering fit. She’ll be rocking it over and over again.

Claudia side panel skirt: The iconic corporate skirt, the Claudia can be paired with any of our StretchFit blazers for a sophisticated tailored suit that doesn't sacrifice comfort. This relaxed fit pencil skirt is our go-to!

Alana wide leg pant: These wide-leg pants are so beautifully tailored, you would never guess how stretchy and comfortable they are. The pull-on waistband has a perfectly smooth finish with any top, and—wait for it—they have pockets! Seriously, these are the only pants you'll want to wear to work.

      3. For the one who lives in loungewear

Well, pretty much anything from Miik would work for this person, but let’s get into some ULTRA comfy options! Here are some of our top picks:

Lisa2 legging: These are a no-brainer. One of our top selling products, you could truly live in the Lisa2 leggings. Our customers love the wide, 4-inch waistband: wear it high-waisted or folded over at the hip, it acts as a comfy control top that smooths everything out. No judgement here if you throw in an extra pair for yourself at checkout!

Katya striped boxy tunic: The Katya's boxy fit makes it feel edgy yet very relaxed. This tunic will take you from weekend lounging to errands around town effortlessly. It’s put-together and polished, even though it feels like you’re rocking PJs... win-win!

Joy tunic: The Joy tunic is another crowd pleaser. Feminine and flowy, it's the perfect match for leggings or jeans. Get the most out of this versatile style by dressing it up or down.

Malory long cardi: This cardi is the ultimate in functionality and comfort. The longer length makes it great for layering with any outfit, and the contrasting collar makes it a cozy staple for the fall and winter seasons.

Kiri pant: One of our fave pants! They feel like yoga pants, with a tailored, fashion-forward look. The Kiri pant has a subtle flared silhouette with a 2" pull-on waistband for a smooth, flattering, and comfortable fit.

Mid-calf socks: The perfect stocking stuffer, that will actually be worn and loved! Make every step more luxurious with these buttery soft mid-calf socks. Miik socks have hand-linked toes for seamless comfort, plus a reinforced heel and toe for durability.

      4. For the one who prefers basics

So she's got a capsule wardrobe? No problem! We have just the thing:

June simple skirt: The ultimate basic that you never knew you needed. It has a smooth look under fitted tops, and can be worn at the hip or high-waisted. If she prefers a longer skirt, we suggest the Jan long simple skirt: the exact same design with a bit more length!

Lea reversible tank: This tank has been a fan favourite for years. The Lea is the perfect layering basic, with a neckline that reverses from boatneck to scoopneck. With bra-friendly straps and a fitted silhouette, it can be worn on its own or under blazers and cardigans.

Yara reversible dress: A classic tank dress, the Yara is an essential that’s perfect for layering and so chic on its own. Back-to-front reversibility means you can switch from a boatneck to high scoop—more ways to wear it, for any occasion.

Anne circle blazer: The perfect crossover between blazer and cardi, the Anne can be styled for work or play. Unlike most of our blazers, this one is machine washable, so there's no excuse not to wear it every. single. day.

Presley top: Truly the basic top of all basic tops, the Presley never disappoints. Its boxy, relaxed fit is universally flattering and easy to pair with jeans, skirts, or tailored pants. Get it in a solid colour if she only wears the most basic of basics, or in a stripe for those who like to mix it up!

Ankle socks: The perfect stocking stuffer that will actually be loved and worn! Treat her feet to these buttery soft ankle socks. Miik socks have hand-linked toes for seamless comfort, plus a reinforced heel and toe for durability.

      Collage of on-trend women's clothing

      5. For the one who's a fashionista

She’s beauty and she’s grace... she’s never had a bad style day. Wow her with these on-trend and equally comfortable Miik pieces:

Jess dress: We love the cutout detail on this dress, and she will too! The Jess can be worn to work with a blazer or dressed up for an evening look. Its flattering A-line silhouette looks great on everyone.

Shea tulip pant: These pants are so comfortable, feminine, and all-around luxurious. The perfect pant for a special occasion, they make a statement with overlapping front panels that curve into a gorgeous tulip shape. Betcha she doesn’t have pants like these... yet!

Tarina reversible cutout top: Wear this reversible v-neck top with the fashionable cutout detail at the front or back. An on-trend bell sleeve completes the look.

Joni ruffle sleeve top: We love a good bell sleeve for the winter season, and if she’s got a passion for fashion, she’ll be obsessed with the Joni! Dress it up for work and down for the weekend or an evening out.

Aedan boyfriend jacket: Talk about a versatile jacket! This gorgeous piece can be worn with black dress pants as a suit, or with jeans and a tee on the weekends. This one is a fave for anyone whose style is a little edgier.

We hope you got some great ideas from this gift guide – and that you have an incredible holiday season spend with friends, family and the people you love most.

      Happy holiday gifting!

3 unexpected ways to wear the Emerson blazer + GIVEAWAY with Stacy Irvine

3 unexpected ways to wear the Emerson blazer + GIVEAWAY with Stacy Irvine

Read to the end to find out how to enter our giveaway with Totum Life Science founder, Stacy Irvine!

Who said blazers are only for the office? The Emerson boxy blazer, made from our buttery soft eco-fabric, is the perfect fit from desk to date night. Ethically-made in Canada, it’s corporate comfort you can feel good about.

Dr Stacy Irvine is a health and fitness coach, and the co-founder of Totum Life Science in Toronto. She is also a regular guest on Cityline as a Health Expert. Stacy embodies what we're all about at Miik – a strong woman who encourages every woman around her to live their best and healthiest life. We invited her to come and check out our new Fall/Winter 2019 Collection. She absolutely loved the Emerson boxy blazer that we picked out for her (I mean, how could you not!).

Janice Meredith—stylist extraordinaire and Cityline guest expert— put together some adorable looks with the Emerson blazer.

At the end of this session, even we were surprised at how many different ways this jacket could be worn. These three looks feature creative ways to style the Emerson that you might never think of! We’re certain there are a million other ways you could style it, too. So versatile, comfy and chic! It elevates any outfit, yet it can be dressed up or down and worn anywhere. Let’s get into these looks.

      LOOK 1: SIMPLE AND COZY

Who knew you could wear a blazer with joggers, a basic tee and sneakers!? Well, with the Emerson blazer you can. And it looks DARN CUTE. This outfit is adorable and Stacy looks effortlessly put together. The key factor here though, is that she’s probably never felt more comfy. You could wear this outfit for errands, a lunch date, sporting event or fall fair. And that’s just to name a few—this outfit could truly be worn anywhere!

LOOK 2: BADASS IN BLACK AND LEATHER

We’re not gonna lie, we were completely taken aback by this outfit. We never would have put these pieces together, but Janice worked her magic and said this outfit would be great. We’re so glad she did! These cowboy boots totally top off the outfit’s edgy factor. The Emerson balances out the faux leather shorts with a sophisticated, classy statement. An easy way to make this outfit cold weather appropriate is to wear it with a faux leather skirt and tights or leggings. Even a leather legging would be great too!

      LOOK 3: BELTED AND DRESSY

Elevate any blazer by adding a belt. Our Emerson blazer has a sleek, boxy design without pockets, which makes it super easy to belt. Belting can help define the waist and give the appearance of a longer leg (yes, please!). Any black dress and heels complete the look, and you’re runway ready! The Emerson blazer’s herringbone pattern is also so neutral that you could put any solid or subtle pattern underneath. This blazer just won’t stop!

One blazer: three unexpected ways to style it. Next time you put together an outfit with your Miik pieces, we would love to see it! Send it our way by tagging @miikinc on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We love seeing real women rocking their Miik with confidence.

5 Tips for a More Sustainable Wardrobe

5 Tips for a More Sustainable Wardrobe

      Clothes on a rack

You’ve heard that fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world and that garment workers are suffering dangerous, exploitative conditions sewing clothes for less than a living wage. You recognize that something needs to change, but where to start?

Making the switch to sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be a daunting task. You don’t have to have all the answers or throw out your entire wardrobe of "fast fashion" clothing. Nobody is 100% perfect 100% of the time—it's a process and a learning experience. Get started by asking questions, learning more about how and where your clothes are made, and making small changes to your shopping habits. Here are 5 tips to help you build a more sustainable wardrobe.

      1. Establish your values

Consider what is important to you when buying clothes, whether they’re ethically-made, locally-made, environmentally-friendly, vegan, organic, one-for-one, fair trade, and so on. Few brands will check every box and it’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself to find items that fulfill every criteria, so think about what matters most to you, what is attainable, and go from there.

      2. Invest in quality pieces

While it’s hard to resist a $5 t-shirt from a fast fashion retailer, it’s likely to fade, pill, stretch, shrink, or fall apart after a handful of wears. Spending a little more money upfront on higher qualities items will save money, time, and waste in the long run.

      3. Rent or borrow for special events

It’s fun to have something new to wear to a wedding or a party, but if you know you’ll only wear it once, save your money (and your closet space) by using a dress rental service or borrowing from a friend. If you must buy something, check out consignment and secondhand shops for unique and new-to-you pieces, or opt for timeless classics that you can wear to many future events.

      4. Treat your clothes with kindness

Washing less often, in cold water, and hanging to dry is better for the planet AND is gentler on your clothes. Extending the lifespan of your garments reduces waste and saves you money. A few more ideas: mend items that are damaged, use a fabric shaver to remove pills, and store items appropriately—fold sweaters and heavy knits that might stretch out on a hanger and thoroughly launder and store seasonal clothing in air-tight containers to protect against pests.

      5. Stop using shopping as a distraction

If you’re not wandering the mall for entertainment or scrolling online retailers when you’re bored, it’s easier to resist the temptation to buy things you don’t need. Out of sight, out of mind! Take an inventory of your wardrobe and identify key pieces that are missing or need replacing, so that when you do go shopping you have a clear intention.
