Toronto mayor visits Miik store

We were so excited to welcome Mayor Olivia Chow and Shelley Carroll, Chief and Vice Chair of Economic Development, to the Miik store in Toronto!

We were so honoured to share our story and everything that makes Miik… well, Miik! Mayor Chow explored our collections, learned how we design and manufacture everything locally, and even left with an Emily blazer. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase how our business supports local jobs and Toronto’s economy, highlighting the impact small, local manufacturers can have on the community.

It was also a great opportunity to talk about how we can amplify small, local manufacturers and businesses, especially with the cross-border duties and tariffs on US orders. It was exciting to see city leaders taking time to learn about our story and brainstorm ways to get more Torontonians excited about shopping local, because it really does make a difference.

For us, the visit was also a chance to share what “local” really looks like at Miik. Every step of our production process happens right here in the Greater Toronto Area, from thread to hanger, which supports local businesses, creates jobs, and keeps working conditions safe and fair. And because everything stays close to home, we cut down on the carbon footprint of shipping materials back and forth across the globe. At the end of the day, we’re not just making clothes we love, we’re building a community and supply chain we’re proud of.

As Mayor Chow puts it: “If you want to shop local and create Toronto jobs, this is the place—and it’s called Miik!”

We’re beyond grateful that the Mayor’s office and Economic Development team are prioritizing small businesses like ours, and we’re excited to keep working with the City of Toronto to amplify local businesses and manufacturers across the city and beyond.

And of course, we couldn’t let a moment like this go undocumented! Check out what Mayor Chow had to say:

We’re so thankful for their visit and for all of you who continue to support women-run, Canadian-made fashion. Every purchase at Miik keeps jobs in Toronto and helps us keep making those buttery-soft, versatile pieces you love.

With much love,
Your Miik team 🤍
